FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino confirmed that the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk is being investigated as an ideologically driven attack, with agents now examining whether the shooter acted alone or was backed by a wider network.
In an appearance on Fox News’ America’s Newsroom, Bongino stressed: “If this was part of a larger effort, if there was any aiding and abetting… we’re looking into that.” He added that the bureau is determined to leave “no stone unturned” as the investigation continues.
According to Bongino, the suspect appeared to have been heavily influenced by leftist ideology in the lead-up to the shooting. He became more politically extreme, increasingly isolated, and showed signs of radicalization. Investigators are now combing through his online activity and possible connections with left-wing groups to see if others were involved.
Video evidence has played a critical role so far. Footage shows the gunman leaping from a rooftop immediately after firing the fatal shot, helping agents track and identify him. Forensic evidence from the scene has also provided key leads.
The FBI is now reviewing possible financial ties, communications, or outside support that may point to a broader plot. Bongino described the attack as a direct assault on free speech and political expression, urging Americans to stand united in rejecting political violence, regardless of ideology.
While acknowledging the deep emotional toll the assassination has had on conservatives, Bongino urged patience and due process as the investigation unfolds. He assured the public that the bureau is committed to transparency, accountability, and bringing every party involved to justice.
The Deputy Director also emphasized the importance of public vigilance. He encouraged citizens to report suspicious behavior and highlighted how community cooperation is vital in preventing future acts of political violence.
