FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino has confirmed that the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk is being investigated as an ideologically driven attack, with federal agents now exploring whether the suspect acted independently or as part of a wider network.
Speaking on Fox News’ America’s Newsroom, Bongino made it clear that the bureau is considering every possibility: “If this was a larger effort, if there was any aiding and abetting… we’re looking into that.”
He stressed that the FBI will leave “no stone unturned,” highlighting the seriousness of the investigation. According to Bongino, the suspect showed signs of being influenced by leftist ideology in the lead-up to the shooting, pointing to a process of radicalization.
Authorities say the suspect had grown increasingly isolated and politically engaged prior to the attack. Investigators are combing through the individual’s online activity and connections with left-wing groups to determine whether others may have played a role.
Key evidence includes video footage showing the gunman leaping from a rooftop after firing the fatal shot. Bongino noted that forensic findings at the scene have produced valuable leads, which have already helped investigators track the suspect.
The FBI is also analyzing financial records and communications that could reveal whether outside support or planning contributed to the crime.
Calling the assassination “an attack on free speech and political discourse,” Bongino urged Americans to stand united against political violence, regardless of ideology. He emphasized that protecting the right to speak freely—especially for conservative voices—remains a priority.
While acknowledging the deep impact on Kirk’s supporters, Bongino asked for patience as the investigation unfolds. He promised transparency, assuring the public that every lead will be thoroughly pursued.
The Deputy Director expressed confidence that the FBI will uncover the full scope of the plot and hold all responsible parties accountable.
He also reminded citizens of the importance of vigilance, encouraging anyone with relevant information to come forward. Community cooperation, Bongino said, is critical to addressing extremism and ensuring safety.
