What started as a normal Sunday afternoon inside a Michigan Walmart turned into a scene of panic and horror when a man suddenly began stabbing shoppers and employees at random.
Police confirmed that 11 people were injured during the violent spree before the chaos was brought to an abrupt end — thanks to the courage of one armed customer.
That customer was Derrick Perry, a licensed concealed carry holder. While most people ran for safety, Perry stepped forward. Eyewitnesses say he pulled his firearm, issued firm commands, and held the suspect at gunpoint until officers arrived.
No shots were fired. No one else was hurt after Perry intervened.
“He didn’t flinch. He didn’t run. He took control,” one witness said, calling Perry a hero.
Emergency crews treated victims at the scene and transported others to local hospitals. Several remain in critical condition, but officials noted the outcome could have been much deadlier without Perry’s actions.
Law enforcement praised him for preventing what they described as an “almost certain mass tragedy.”
The attack has already reignited national debate over self-defense laws, concealed carry rights, and how everyday citizens can sometimes be the first to respond in life-or-death situations.
Derrick Perry never expected to make headlines — but in the eyes of many, he’s the reason this story isn’t about dozens of lives lost.
