A Joke of Friendship and Fate

Mike and Ted had been inseparable for nine decades. Both in their 90s, the two lifelong friends shared countless memories, but their greatest bond was their love of motorcycles. Every Sunday, without fail, they’d ride side by side.

As Ted’s health began to fail, Mike stayed faithfully by his side. One afternoon, Mike leaned in and said:

“Ted, promise me something. If you make it to heaven before I do, find a way to let me know—do they have motorcycles up there?”

Ted managed a weak smile. “You’ve been my best friend forever, Mike. If it’s possible, I’ll let you know.”

A few days later, Ted passed away.

That very week, as Mike drifted off to sleep, he heard a familiar voice calling his name.

“Mike… it’s me, Ted.”

Startled, Mike sat up. “Ted? Is it really you?”

“It is,” Ted replied. “I’m in heaven—and I’ve got some news for you. Good news, and bad news.”

“Tell me the good news first,” Mike said nervously.

“The good news,” Ted began, “is that heaven has motorcycles—beautiful ones. Every legendary rider is here, and we can cruise forever.”

Mike grinned. “That’s amazing! So… what’s the bad news?”

Ted sighed and said softly:
“You’re on the schedule for next Thursday.”
