Former President Donald Trump is expected to attend the U.S. Open men’s championship match in New York on Sunday afternoon.
Trump departed around 2 p.m. ET for the event and will watch the match from Rolex’s suite inside Arthur Ashe Stadium, according to the Associated Press.
This marks Trump’s first visit to the New York Grand Slam tournament in nearly a decade, with his last appearance taking place in 2015.
Ahead of his attendance, the United States Tennis Association (USTA) instructed broadcasters to avoid highlighting any distractions tied to Trump’s presence.
“With respect to broadcast coverage, the President will be shown on the World Feed and Ashe Court Feed during the national anthem,” an internal USTA email reported by Bounces stated.
The message also urged networks not to spotlight disruptions or audience reactions related to Trump, including through Electronic News Gathering (ENG) coverage.
The USTA noted this type of request is routine, emphasizing that it regularly asks broadcasters not to focus on off-court disturbances during matches.
