JD Vance Hints at 2028 Run but Says His Focus Remains on the Job at Hand

Vice President JD Vance is leaving the door open to a possible 2028 presidential campaign but insists his priority is serving effectively in his current role.

During an interview on My View with Lara Trump over the weekend, Vance acknowledged the speculation but made it clear he isn’t eager to dwell on the subject. “If we do a good job in 2025 and 2026, then we can talk about the politics in 2027,” he said. “The American people are tired of politicians already running for the next office just months into the one they have.”

Although hesitant to look ahead, Vance admitted that any future campaign wouldn’t come easily. “There are a lot of great people. If I do end up running, it’s not going to be handed to me—on either the Republican side or nationally. I’m just going to keep working hard. This may be the most important job I’ll ever have outside of being a father, so I want to give it my best,” he explained.

When asked about potential Democratic contenders in 2028, Vance was critical, saying many of them “obviously have very bad records.” Still, rather than spotlight his own ambitions, he directed praise toward President Donald Trump, commending his relentless work ethic and leadership style.

“Sometimes the president will call you at 12:30 or 2 a.m., and then again at 6 a.m. on a completely different topic,” Vance shared. “What makes this job so rewarding is his ability to delegate and trust his team. He’ll say, ‘JD, go handle this,’ or ‘JD, go speak with these leaders,’ and that’s been amazing to be part of.”
