House Republicans are ramping up calls for U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi to take legal action against Dr. Anthony Fauci and others, accusing them of efforts to discredit former President Donald Trump.
Lawmakers point to Fauci’s alleged role in misleading Congress about U.S. funding for gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China—research they believe may be linked to the COVID-19 outbreak. Recently uncovered emails suggest Fauci may have known more about the controversial research than he previously admitted, prompting Senator Rand Paul to request a criminal investigation through the Department of Justice.
In addition to Fauci, Republicans are targeting Democratic leaders like New York Attorney General Letitia James and several city mayors who have supported sanctuary policies for undocumented immigrants. GOP members argue these actions were politically charged and aimed at undermining Trump.
Attorney General Bondi is also facing scrutiny for releasing documents related to Jeffrey Epstein that were largely blacked out. Critics argue the lack of transparency raises further questions about accountability.
The developments underscore ongoing political clashes surrounding the pandemic’s origins and the broader debate over legal consequences for public officials.
