In a decisive move, Republican lawmakers in the House have delivered a major win for former President Trump by passing the No Rogue Rulings Act, targeting activist judges accused of blocking his policies. This legislation, approved nearly unanimously by Republicans on April 9, aims to curb the power of certain federal judges who issue nationwide injunctions that stall Trump’s efforts—especially on immigration and national security.
The controversy comes amid growing concerns over professionalism and staffing within agencies like the Secret Service, which some blame on diversity-driven hiring practices. The unease intensified following last year’s attempted assassination of Trump. Critics argue that lowered standards and morale issues have plagued these agencies for some time.
Trump has long struggled to implement his priorities, including deporting gang members tied to violent organizations such as MS-13 and Tren de Aragua. His efforts frequently get tied up in court battles, thanks to district judges who issue sweeping injunctions, forcing appeals up to the Supreme Court.
Rep. Derek Schmidt (R-KS), a key supporter of the bill, told Fox News Digital that the law is designed to prevent “judge shopping,” where plaintiffs pick progressive judges likely to support their political agenda rather than impartial justice. He emphasized, “This is truly a commonsense solution.”
Schmidt also pointed out that district judges have brought this problem on themselves by overusing nationwide injunctions. Notably, he mentioned that bipartisan efforts to address this issue had existed before and expressed hope the bill could gain broader support.
Joining Schmidt, Rep. Lance Gooden (R-TX) highlighted that some lower court judges, often appointed by Democrats, have acted like “activist liberal attorneys in robes” to block Trump’s reforms. He insisted the new law is needed to rein in their unchecked power.
Rep. Randy Feenstra (R-IA) also weighed in, stating that unelected judges shouldn’t have the authority to derail a president’s agenda, especially when millions of Americans voted for those policies. He argued, “There’s no excuse for activist judges with limited jurisdiction to halt the national will.”
Meanwhile, Rep. Marlin Stutzman (R-IN) called attention to what he sees as judicial bias against Trump, arguing that activist judges issuing nationwide injunctions have thwarted both public will and safety since Trump took office.
For context, Elon Musk recently spoke out on the growing issue of activist judges, highlighting the broader implications of judicial overreach.
