Former President Joe Biden is facing a new and serious health challenge after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer.
Biden’s Diagnosis Confirmed
The 82-year-old ex-president’s medical team confirmed the diagnosis on May 18, revealing that Biden has stage 9 prostate cancer that has metastasized to his bones. A statement from his office explained that recent urinary symptoms prompted further testing, which led to the discovery of a prostate nodule. The official report stated:
“President Biden was evaluated for a newly detected prostate nodule following persistent urinary symptoms. The diagnosis revealed a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5), with evidence of bone metastasis.”
Despite the severity, doctors noted that the cancer is hormone-sensitive, giving Biden a range of promising treatment paths. He and his family are currently working with his physicians to determine the best course of action.
A Shift in Tone from Trump
Throughout their political rivalry, Trump and Biden have often exchanged sharp words and insults. But the former president offered a surprisingly compassionate response following news of Biden’s condition.
Taking to Truth Social, Donald Trump shared:
“Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis. We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery.”
Harris, Others Send Support
Vice President Kamala Harris, who took over Biden’s 2024 campaign efforts after he exited the race, also expressed her support. Posting on X, Harris wrote:
“Doug and I are saddened to learn of President Biden’s prostate cancer diagnosis. We are keeping him, Dr. Biden, and their entire family in our hearts and prayers during this time. Joe is a fighter — and I know he will face this challenge with the same strength, resilience, and optimism that have always defined his life and leadership.”
Biden’s Health History
This isn’t the first time Biden has faced cancer. During his presidency, he underwent surgery in 2023 to remove a cancerous lesion. He’s also been treated for skin cancer in the past. His commitment to cancer research and treatment has been deeply personal, especially following the death of his son Beau Biden, who died from brain cancer in 2015.
